Q: How Is SIP Trunking different than PRI or POTS lines? A: It's slightly different. But it's just a different protocol. It's still phone service. Calls traverse an IP-based connection (T-1’s usually) and terminate on a gateway or a SIP server (IP PBX). Q: What’s a Gateway? A: A digital gateway for T-1 or PRI connections will convert SIP protocol voice and hand off a familiar connection to the PBX or KSU. Analog gateways do the same for POTS lines. We sell both at extremely reasonable costs to promote our SIP Trunking products. Q: How is Sotel SIP Trunking any different than Vonage? A: There are huge differences. Vonage is a consumer-oriented service, and Sotel’s platforms have been created for Business Class Service levels. Vonage may be cost-effective at home, but just try to hook it up to a PBX. Can they hand off a PRI? No. Can they support your technical folks with knowledgeable human beings while you try to connect your IP PBX or Gateway? No. Do they make sure you are set up with a solid IP connection that facilitates Quality of Service (QoS)? No. Sotel does provide all of the above and consulting services as well. It is all designed to bring your VoIP migration project (whether a stand-alone PBX, a Contact Center platform, or a Carrier’s migration to SIP) to a successful conclusion… on time and under budget. Q: How do I know what your call completion rates will be? What about service levels? Do you provide SLAs? A: In fact we do. Call completion will always be above 99.5%. Look to our Service Level document for more specific information (available under NDA).
